Orgasmic Meditation Is The Hot (And Slightly Terrifying) New Trend That Marries Sex With Mindfulness

Move over yoga, because orgasmic meditation is the hot new class on everyone's lips.

And it focuses solely on the female orgasm.

Orgasmic meditation (OM) is a wellness practice that claims to help singles and couples reach a deeper level of connectedness with themselves - and each other - by harnessing the power of the female orgasm.

The classes take place privately with an OM practitioner to guide the meditation. Women can either see the practitioner alone, or couples can attend together.

The practice involves bringing the woman to orgasm (either through masturbation, if she is alone, or through her partner's stimulation). The intimate, meditative approach is said to induce intense orgasm in a way that helps both parties achieve "more connection, vitality, pleasure, and meaning in every aspect of their lives".

The practice itself is simple, specific and repeatable, and involves a woman removing her underwear and lying down.

Then, her partner will sit beside her and "lightly and deliberately" stroke her clitoris for 15 minutes.

Justine Dawson, who is the director of OneTaste, reveals to the Daily Mail that she believes the attraction for orgasmic meditation is that it can offer a more conscious approach to sex and relationships.

Admittedly lying on the floor engaging in quite a personal activity while somebody watches does sound pretty terrifying. However, the mindfulness part is designed to zone all of that out.

Female Orgasm Captured In Brain Scan Animation (VIDEO)

"Every OM is set up the same way so participants can stop thinking, and instead follow the feeling, listen to their bodies, and be present," adds Dawson.

"When it comes to discussions of orgasm, relationship and connection, I believe that most people are shy. But people come to the class regardless, because they know that good things take practice and just like your health or career, it's worth putting time and effort into your sex and relationships, even if it means being a little uncomfortable!"

And it's important, too. As Nicole Daedone, the entrepreneur behind OneTaste, finely puts it in her TED talk: "The female orgasm is vital for every single woman on the planet."

While it might sound a bit "out there", since starting up in the US, orgasmic meditation has now grown to the point where there are now over 10,000 practitioners worldwide - 2,000 of which are in the UK alone.

What's also interesting is that the classes attract mixed clientele - anything from couples in their early 20s, to people in their 70s and 80s.

"[It's a mixture of] Singles and couples," reveals Dawson. "Some couples have been together for a year, others for 30 years. There are all kinds of professional backgrounds - doctors, teachers, programmers, managers, artists, therapists.

Story continues below...

But there is one downfall - the cost.

Classes can set you back by £195, which includes a four-session pass to the local orgasm practice club - a bit more pricey than your average yoga session.

But Dawson believes it's worth the money: "We're ready for a different approach," she says. "One that is more conscious. People want information on how to do that. And we offer it openly."

Meteorologist Kristi Gordon Responds To Viewer Who Called Her Baby Bump 'Gross'

Canadian meteorologist Kristi Gordon received some hate mail. It wasn't because of something she said, it was because she was six months pregnant.

One email, from an anonymous viewer, was so hurtful it prompted the Global BC news team to read it out on camera.

"Nowhere on North American TV have we seen a weather reader as gross as you," the letter read.

"Your front end looks like the Hindenburg and your rear end looks like a brick s***house. We now turn off Global."

Kristi said she had also received aggressive mail during her last pregnancy, particularly insulting her choice of maternity clothing.

"I feel like I'm a pretty confident person, I wouldn't be in this industry if I wasn't. I don't feel like this is affecting me, or has affected me" she said.

"But I thought about some of the things I did last night; I checked the mirror to see how big I'm getting, I asked my husband, 'Am I not seeing it? Am I getting really big?'

"It wasn't until I went to bed that I realised that - despite us saying that these guys are crazy - it's amazing that when you say something mean about someone it still affects them."

Her network responded to the on-air antics by releasing this statement: "To all viewers, thanks for all your feedback. We've read them all. We support Kristi, her wardrobe choices and all women who work while pregnant."

Household Bleach Linked To 'Increased Risk Of Flu, Tonsillitis And Infection' Among Children

Passive exposure to bleach at home has been linked to higher rates of infection in children, according to new research.

A study led by the University of Leuven - KU Leuven - in Belgium found the chance of an episode of flu was 20% higher and recurrent tonsillitis 35% greater amongst children whose parents used bleach to clean their home.

Similarly, the risk of any recurrent infection was 18% higher amongst children of regular bleach users.

9 Dirty Things In Your Home You Probably Haven't Been Cleaning

Researchers said "the high frequency of use of disinfecting cleaning products - caused by erroneous belief, reinforced by advertising, that our homes should be free of microbes - makes the modest effects reported in our study of public health concern".

They calculated the results by looking at the potential impact of exposure to bleach in the homes of more than 9,000 children between the ages of six and 12 attending more than 50 different schools in the Netherlands, Finland and Spain.

Their parents were asked to complete a questionnaire on the number and frequency of times their children had flu, tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, otitis (ear infection) and pneumonia in the preceding 12 months. They were also asked if they used bleach to clean their homes at least once a week.

Use of bleach was common in Spain (72% of respondents) but rare in Finland (7%).

The study, which is published in the British Medical Journal, also noted that all Spanish schools were cleaned with bleach, while Finnish schools were not.

Researchers said after taking into account a number of influential factors, such as passive smoking at home, the presence of household mould, and whether bleach was used in the children's schools, overall the prevalence of infections, both single or recurrent, was higher in children of bleach users.

They said these were statistically significant for flu, tonsillitis, and any infection.

But they added that it is purely an observational study, so no definitive conclusions can be drawn about cause and effect.
The authors said their findings were in line with the increased risk of recurrent bronchitis in school-age children reported in a Belgian cross-sectional study.

"Domestic cleaning involves exposure to a large variety of irritants and sensitising chemicals that are used following certain cleaning patterns," the study said.

"Unfortunately, we did not have information on the use of other cleaning products and we cannot exclude the possibility that the observed results are due to the use of other irritants or to their combinations."

Personalised Skin Cancer Vaccine Shows 'Promising' Results In Clinical Trial

Revolutionary personalised cancer vaccines tailored to individual patients have produced highly promising results in an early clinical trial.

The vaccines against deadly melanoma skin cancer triggered a "very strong" immune response in three patients with no adverse side effects.

Crucially, the customised vaccines appeared to boost the number and diversity of immune system "killer T-cells" that target tumours.

Findings from the first three patients given the treatment are published in the journal Science.

Undated handout image issued by Washington University School of Medicine of personalised melanoma skin cancer vaccines tailored to individual patients have shown promise in an early clinical trial.

Scientists believe they could pave the way to personalised immunotherapy not only for melanoma but also other cancers.
Trial leader Dr Gerald Linette, from Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, US, said: "This proof-of-principle study shows that these custom-designed vaccines can elicit a very strong immune response.

"The tumour antigens (proteins) we inserted into the vaccines provoked a broad response among the immune system's killer T-cells responsible for destroying tumours.

"Our results are preliminary, but we think the vaccines have therapeutic potential based on the breadth and remarkable diversity of the T-cell response."

This Is The Danger Of Lunchtime Sunbathing

The Phase I trial was designed to evaluate safety immune response, not long-term effectiveness which will have to be assessed in future studies.

Previous cancer vaccines have focused on normal proteins commonly present at high levels in particular kinds of tumour.
But those same proteins are also found in healthy cells, making it difficult to trigger a potent immune response.

The new approach involved first mapping the DNA of individual patients' tumours and samples of healthy tissue to identify proteins unique to cancer cells.

Story continues below...

Computer analysis and laboratory tests revealed which of these "neoantigens" would be most likely to stimulate a strong immune response and work in a vaccine.

Each of the melanoma patients had undergone surgery to remove their tumours but experienced cancer spread to the lymph nodes.

LIKE HUFFPOST UK LIFESTYLE ON FACEBOOK | FOLLOW US ON TWITTER | WE'RE ALSO ON INSTAGRAM

The Phase I trial, enrolling a total of six patients, was approved by the US medicines regulator, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as part of an investigational new drug application.

Co-author Dr Elaine Mardis, co-director of the McDonnell Genome Institute at Washington University, said: "This is about as personalised as vaccines can get. The approach we describe is fundamentally different from conventional mutation discovery, which focuses on identifying mutated genes that drive cancer development.

"Instead, we're looking for a unique set of mutated proteins in a patient's tumour that would be most likely to be recognised by the immune system as foreign."

Melanoma tissue samples typically carry 500 or more mutated genes, producing altered proteins. Starting with these mutations, the scientists narrowed their search by identifying proteins not only present in tumours but also likely to be seen as "non-self" by the immune system.

Dr Beatriz Carreno, another member of the Washington University team, said: "You can think of a neoantigen as a flag on each cancer cell.

"Each patient's melanoma can have hundreds of different flags. As part of validating candidate vaccine neoantigens, we were able to identify the flags on the patients' cancer cells. Then we created customised vaccines to a select group of flags on each patient's tumour."

Seven unique neoantigens were chosen for each tailored treatment and used in conjunction with specialised immune cells called dendritic cells to "wake up" the immune system.

Analysis of blood samples showed that each patient mounted an immune response to the specific neoantigens in their vaccines.

The results suggest a similar approach could be used to produce vaccines against other cancers with high mutation rates, such as those affecting the lung, bladder and bowel.

Dr Linette added: "Our team has developed a new strategy for personalised cancer immunotherapy.

"Many researchers have hypothesised that it would be possible to use neoantigens to broadly activate the human immune system, but we didn't know that for sure until now. We still have much more work to do, but this is an important first step and opens the door to personalised immune-based cancer treatments."

The scientists concluded in their paper: "Vaccination against tumour neoantigens appears safe as all three patients are alive and well with no autoimmune adverse events..

"Personalised immunotherapies targeting private somatic tumor alterations may become feasible in the near future."

Dr Alan Worsley, senior science communications officer at Cancer Research UK, said: "This exciting but very early stage trial shows that it may be possible to create vaccines that are tailored to the specific genetic mistakes in a patient's cancer.
"At the moment it's not clear how effective this immunotherapy would be at killing cancer cells in the body and improving survival, but this promising study sets the stage for creating vaccines that are designed to target each patient's individual tumour in the future."

Hayley Okines, The '100-Year-Old Teeanger', Dies Aged 17 After Campaigning For Rare Progeria Condition

Hayley Okines, a campaigner whose illness caused her to age eight times faster than average, has died at the age of 17.

Okines, from Bexhill, in East Sussex, became known as the "100-year-old teenager" as the rapid aging condition Progeria meant her body was the equivalent age of a centenarian when she was just 14.

The Progeria Research Foundation posted on its Facebook page: "The entire Progeria family mourns together with many as we say goodbye to Hayley Okines, our smart, beautiful and spirited English rose, who passed away today at age 17.

"Gone from our sight, but never our memories, gone from our touch but never our hearts. We will miss you."

Hayley and her family had fundraised for her medical treatment and to raise public understanding of the condition, and the teenager published her autobiography at the age of 14 called Old Before My Time.

Last summer she gained six GCSEs, and was planning to study journalism at college.

She was considered to have defied the odds even to have lived to her 14th birthday, and spoke about her condition in a TV documentary called The Girl Who Is Older Than Her Mother and World’s Oldest Teenager: Extraordinary People.

After Hayley was born in 1997, she didn't appear to be growing and wore clothes for babies aged three months when she was 13 months old. Extensive tests revealed her skin had a lack of elasticity, The Daily Mirror reports.

Her mother Kerry told The Sunday People in 2013: "A consultant said they were investigating a rare gene mutation called Hutchinson-Gilford progeria. We looked it up on the internet and were shocked. We found photos of children who looked like little elderly people."

Tragic Cancer Victim Bruce McCulloch Ensures Daughter Zoe Will Get Birthday Cards Every Year After His Death

A devoted dad knew he wouldn't live to celebrate his daughter's future birthdays with her - but still managed to leave a few presents behind.

Bruce McCulloch, who lost his battle with cancer shortly after daughter Zoe's first birthday, but not before he made plans for the next 20 years.

The retail manager was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma in 2008 just weeks after the couple found out they were expecting their first child.

He had the mole removed but found a lump under his arm one week before Zoe was due to be born. It was found to be cancerous and Bruce started chemotherapy.

When his skin cancer spread, Bruce made sure he wrote enough birthday cards to see Zoe through to her 21st birthday, so he could be there in spirit to celebrate each special day with her.

Zoe has now opened her sixth card and mum Janet continues to be baffled by her husband's resilience.

"When Bruce was first told his cancer had spread, he told his doctor he would do whatever it took to be able to live long enough to walk his daughter down the aisle," Janet told the Daily Record.

"When he said it, I remember I felt myself trying not to cry because I knew that wasn't likely to happen and, realistically, five years was probably a best-case scenario.

"Bruce never wanted to know how much time he was likely to have and just wanted to get on with living. But with each bit of bad news that the cancer had progressed further, we knew we were losing time.

"In the end, Bruce’s goal was to be there for Zoe’s first birthday and he was. But he also made plans for birthdays he wasn't going to be there for.

"While he was unable to write himself by that stage, he dictated what he wanted to say to a friend who wrote the cards out for him.

"He dictated a couple of sentences for each card – things to let her know he loved her and that where he is, he is thinking of her – and wishing her the most wonderful birthday.

"I am amazed he managed to do that – it was so difficult and very draining. But it was important to him and, even though Zoe is young, they are important to her too.

"Bruce found the lump a week before Zoe was due but didn’t tell me because he didn’t want to worry me.

"When it was confirmed the lump was cancerous, he started chemotherapy. But unfortunately after the chemo, we found out the cancer had spread to his bones and eventually it spread to his brain.

"He had a few spells in and out of hospital and then had a week at the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh, where the staff did an amazing job in helping get the pain he was suffering under control.

"He came home in February and his final goal was to see Zoe’s first birthday at the end of March.

"On the day, he was able to get out of bed and joined us in the kitchen where we had party food and a sing-song with friends and family.

"To know he achieved that goal which was so important to him does bring me some comfort."

Watch The Duchess Of Cambridge React To The 8 Most Ridiculous Royal Baby Rumours

The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to twins and is embarking on life as a single mum as the Queen has kicked her out of Kensington Palace.

None of this is true, but if you've been keeping up with royal baby news (and let's face it, it's pretty hard to avoid), these are all things you may have read over the last eight months.

One thing about Kate that has been proven to be true is that she can give some mighty fine side-eye. So here's how we like to think she'd react to the eight most ridiculous royal baby rumours:

1. Kate's given birth a month early!

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Any pregnant woman who is counting down the seconds to her due date knows just how cruel this rumour is.

It was circulated by two American magazines Life & Style and OK USA at the end of March 2015, reports the Daily Mail. Most of the more ridiculous claims remain unpublished in the UK - a move designed to avoid breaking the UK's stricter libel laws.

2. She's 'at war' with her (grand)mother-in-law and things have become so bad she may soon be homeless.

A report with the headline Who’ll Raise Kate Middleton’s Kids? Feud Deepens with Queen? said the 88-year-old monarch argued with Kate 'about who would raise her new baby and a disgusted Kate stormed out and left the Palace'.

Our favourite ridiculous line from this story: "Now that pregnant Kate Middleton’s premature hospitalisation over contractions has turned partially untrue..."

Partially untrue?

3. The Duchess has access to scans so powerful they can show the colour of her baby's hair, (which is blonde, by the way).

Kate's first pregnancy with Prince George was dogged with rumours that she was expecting twins.

The reason people thought they knew she had two babies on the way? Kate was suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that is more common in women expecting twins, but which can also affect those carrying just one baby... as Kate was.

You may think that Prince George being born without a twin brother or sister would have put this line of thinking to bed, but no:

"Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge could be reaching their goal of 'at least three children' sooner than thought – after new reports suggesting Kate is pregnant with twins," declared Hello! magazine in October 2014.

"As her health started to improve, she began having this recurring dream," a source shared with American Star magazine. "It was about having a daughter."

What more proof do you need that the spare to the heir will be a girl?!

According to the Daily Mail columnist Sebastian Shakespeare, Prince Charles grew concerned that the Duke of Cambridge spends 'an inordinate amount of time...with his in-laws Michael and Carole'.

Shakespeare writes: "In fact, so vexed is Charles about the so-called 'March of the Middletons' that he has complained to friends: 'They never let me see my grandson.'"

However, according to the Express, when a Clarence House spokesman was asked about the last time Charles had seen George, he issued the following statement: "His Royal Highness enjoys an excellent relationship with his grandson."

7. Kate planned her pregnancy to sway the vote at the Scottish referendum.

It was the timing of the pregnancy announcement - a mere 10 days before the Scottish independence referendum - that caused some people to become suspicious.

As James Kirkup the Telegraph's Executive Editor wrote: "This just looks too neat, too convenient. All concerned will deny it utterly, of course, but an awful lot of people will look at this announcement and suspect it has been made with the intention of swaying the Scottish vote."

"Exclusive sources provided an update and unfortunately tell us that Kate Middleton and Prince William are still fighting, and that Kate didn't want to return to Kensington Palace just yet," claimed Celebrity Dirty Laundry.

"Sure, the royal couple just made two public appearances together earlier this week, and were the picture of a loving and dedicated couple, but they’re also pros at this – they have had years and years of practice, and I’m sure they can turn on a fake smile and pretend for the cameras."

Or perhaps - and you can call us cynical here - they are just very much in love. Or is that simply too crazy to believe?

How To Make The Perfect Bacon, Lettuce And Tomato Sandwich - All You Need Is A Bacon Weave

As far as sandwiches go, it doesn't get much better than the classic BLT.

But while it may be delicious beyond belief, the BLT has some undeniable structural issues.

Every time, without fail, the bacon falls out. As a result, you're left with sections of bread to eat without any bacon in them.

Until now.

In the above video, Food & Wine's Justin Chapple reveals how to make sure every inch of you sarnie is packed with sturdy bacon.

The trick, he says, is to weave individual strips of bacon together to make one SUPER bacon.

"I'm just folding my bacon folks, simple as that," he says.

Still not convinced?

Drug-Resistant Superbug Outbreak Could Kill 80,000

Up to 80,000 people could die from an outbreak of a drug-resistant blood infection, a Government report has warned.

A total of 200,000 people could be infected if a new superbug - an infection that cannot be treated effectively with existing drugs - develops, according to The National Risk Register of Civil Emergencies.

The report also states that over the next twenty years the number of infections complicated by superbugs are expected to rise significantly.

It warns that routine surgery could become 'high-risk' because of the growing resistance to antibiotics.

The report, which assesses the threat level from emergencies and is produced annually to help the Government decide on policy, states:

"An increasingly serious issue is the development and spread of AMR (antimicrobial resistance), which occurs when drugs are no longer effective in treating infections caused by micro-organisms.

"Without effective antibiotics, even minor surgery and routine operations could become high-risk procedures, leading to increased duration of illness and ultimately premature mortality.

"Much of modern medicine (for example, organ transplantation, bowel surgery and some cancer treatments) may become unsafe due to the risk of infection.

"In addition, influenza pandemics would become more serious without effective treatments."

Antibiotics- Why Aren't We Asking the Patient?

The assessment continues: "The numbers of infections complicated by AMR are expected to increase markedly over the next 20 years.

"If a widespread outbreak were to occur, we could expect around 200,000 people to be affected by a bacterial blood infection that could not be treated effectively with existing drugs, and around 80,000 of these people might die.

"High numbers of deaths could also be expected from other forms of antimicrobial resistant infection."

Politicians and scientists have previously warned of the need to find a cure for infections that have become resistant to drugs, with David Cameron stating it was a 'very real and worrying threat' that could send medicine 'back into the dark ages'.

Last year a report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that antibiotic resistance is no longer a looming danger but a reality with the potential to affect anyone of any age in any country.

Professor Dame Sally Davies, chief medical officer for England, said: "The world simply cannot afford not to take action to tackle the alarming rise in resistance to antibiotics and other antimicrobial drugs we are witnessing at the moment."

'Healthy' Superfruit Juices Contain More Sugar Than Cola

Some 'healthy' fruit juices contain more sugar than cola, officials have warned.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has said soft drinks firms are 'dragging their heels' when it comes to reducing the amount of sugar in many of their products.

The body which represents more than 370 councils in England and Wales responsible for public health, accused the industry of 'helping wean a generation of overweight children'.

Research by the organisation found some popular fruit juice drinks and ginger beers contain more sugar than cola, while many cans of fizzy drink contain twice the recommended daily sugar limit.

A can of Old Jamaica Ginger Beer contained 12 teaspoons of sugar - double the World Health Organisation's 25g recommended daily sugar limit.

Ocean Spray Cranberry Classic juice was found to have 11g of sugar per 100ml, pomegranate drink Pomegreat had 12.1g, while a. can of full-sugar Coca-Cola has 10.6 grams.

Councillor Izzi Seccombe, chair of the LGA's Community Well-being Board, said: "It is wholly unacceptable for one normal-sized can of soft drink to contain 12 teaspoons of sugar - double the recommended daily limit.

"Products like these are fuelling the obesity crisis and helping wean a generation of overweight children.

"Some firms are showing willing when it comes to reducing sugar - but others are simply dragging their heels.

"They need to go further, faster. We are calling on the sector as a whole to to step up and show more corporate responsibility."

She added that as well as reducing the amount of sugar in drinks, manufacturers also have a responsibility to provide clear nutrition information.

"In many cases, people are unaware of exactly how much sugar these fizzy drinks contain," she said.

"Manufacturers must also provide clearer, larger and more prominent labelling which spells out the sugar content. It is crucial to tackle obesity at an early age."

The LGA also recommended that a percentage of the existing VAT raised through the sale of sugary drinks, sweets, crisps, and takeaway food should be invested in preventative schemes like leisure centres, exercise classes and free swimming.

According to the NHS, under-10s receive almost a fifth of their sugar intake from soft drinks and for 11- to 18-year-olds that figure is nearly a third

In response to the LGA's statement Adam Pritchard, founder of Pomegreat, said:

"Whilst I applaud the aims of the Local Government Association in raising the issue of sugar in drinks, their claims about my brand are nonsense.

"My drinks do not contain raw sugar. The fruit extract enables consumers to manage their glycaemic index.

"I have partnered with the Independent Diabetes Trust on the development of this formulation."

A spokeswoman for Ocean Spray said: “Unlike other fruit, cranberries are naturally low in sugar and have the taste profile similar to that of lemons.

“Therefore, sweetening is required so that consumers can enjoy its health benefits and great taste. We offer consumers a range of reduced sugar options.”
